Salon has an excellent article on Dani Bunten. Dani was the creator the best computer game I ever played, M.U.L.E. She also made Seven Cities of Gold, a revolutionary game for the time that was the forerunner for all the RTS games that followed.
It is truly sad that a woman that brought so much innovation to gaming was stuck by cancer just as the internet opened up a whole new world of gaming.

Have you ever played Wasteland (The precursor to Fallout/FalloutII)?
That was a cool game.
Actually, I haven’t.
From about ’97 to ’01 I was obsessed with Ultima Online and didn’t play hardly any other game except Quake.
I’ve heard that series was good, but I’ve always preferred multiplayer games to single player. The best games on our Intellivision were Boxing & Sea Battle because I could play against another person.
Not that Mike could ever actually beat me in Intellivision boxing…
I was a UO addict from launch date until about a year and a half after. Then I sold everything stripped naked and gave it all away in the middle of town. I was very very popular for about 20 minutes… 🙂
Wasteland predates UO by quite a bit.
