Making candles from beeswax

Over the last few years, I’ve accumulated beeswax from the apiary and during honey harvests. I’ve made videos about harvesting the wax and refining it.

I have enough now to do some fun things with it, like making some candles.

Making candles from beeswax

My backyard beehives supply a good amount of beeswax, and this was my first attempt at making candles with it.

I learned a few things in this first attempt.

The wax needs to be clean or the little bits of debris show up. The first candles had debris at the top, since the candles are made upside down.

Don’t overheat the wax. The cooling process will have less cracks if the wax is not super hot. And it’s easier to deal with the inevitable splashes.

Have plenty of molds. Making one or two candles a day is slow progress. I have more molds on the way.

I haven’t played with scented candles, but that will probably be the next experiment.
