Earlier this week I was defeated in single combat. Yes, hard to believe I know, but Mr. P appears victorious in the much Bally-hooed Toast Off.
At the office, the old toaster oven was dying and Mr. P suggested a new toaster. I suggested a new toaster oven, since I feel that a toaster oven makes better toast than a straight toaster.
After a bit of wrangling the Toast Off was arranged. Now I wasn't happy with the conditions set forth.
Mr. P wanted a pure speed test. Set the toasting devices to the darkest settings, start, and the first to finish the winner.
As you can see, Mr. P's toaster was faster.
I still maintain that a toaster oven is better, makes better toast, and is ore versatile, but I was defeated in this round.
Posted by michael at May 18, 2006 08:20 PMIt only makes sense that the toaster is quicker. The bread is closer to the hot elements there. Not even a fair fight.
For an office appliance though the toaster oven does make more sense since you can do more than make toast. You can heat up actual vittles in the toaster oven. Depending on what it is you're heating up it's way better than a microwave.
Concede this round for speed, but see how well his toaster does with lasagna.
Posted by: LittleKenny [http://littlekenny.com] on May 18, 2006 10:06 PMI don't think Mister P would refute your claim that the toaster oven is a better all-around appliance.
But even I was surprised that ol' 2-slice there popped out toast faster than the oven.
Two slice toaster, you are the champion toast maker.

First of all, your exact quote was "I submit that a toaster oven does a better job than a traditional toaster at the task of toasting bread." This had NOTHING to do with which appliance was better overall. It's all about the toast baby.
Second of all, you were also defeated in Round 2, Ease of Use, and Round 3, Uniformity. I concede you had the ignorant masses on your side but the DATA favors me.
Here's what really happened:

viva la toster oven!

Here's the analogy I've been giving around work, which keeps falling on deaf ears: I have a Motorola Camera Phone and a Canon PowerShot camera. Which will take better photos? You can argue all you want about how great the Motorola is at doing so many different things, but if you want a good photo you should use the Canon.
