Defraggin'

My main hard drive was 45% fragmented and I decided to defrag it.

Q: Do you know how long it takes to defrag a 250 GB drive?

A: 24 long effing hours

Try Power Defrag. It's worth buying.

24 hours? 250 gigs?

Well, I guess I'm stuck in the past (70 total here).

I have two 250gb hard drives.. took 52 hours to defrag them. Since then I run Diskeeper Pro and it defrags when the computer is idle. Runs a lot faster and both drives are perfectly defragged.

1. copy from source drive to temporary drive.
2. format source drive.
3. copy from temporary drive to source drive.
4. profit!

Best Idea, Get a Linux file server with a real filesystem (such as ext3) and keep your files there, just access them via your network.

Linux filesystems are immune to fragmentation due to their inode structure (i.e. they will never fragment in the first place, so will never need defrag them)

And thank god for that, i cant imagine trying to defrag the 6TB file server where i work.....

Diskeeper Lite is a free download and it's quite fast. It can defrag in the background while you work.
